Background

AR-150318887 For more than three decades, Robert Durst has been linked to the deaths of three people – his first wife, Kathleen; a friend, Susan Berman; and an elderly neighbor, Morris Black. C__Data_Users_DefApps_AppData_INTERNETEXPLORER_Temp_Saved Images_54cc2667e4b0679a8237f399 In 1982, Robert Durst’s semi-estranged wife Kathleen, who was in the process of finishing her medical degree, disappeared without a trace. He came under suspicion, but neither body nor tangible evidence of his culpability in any crime was found. 010501Berman1 In 2000, Susan Berman was found shot execution style at her home near Beverly Hills. Afterwards, It then emerged that New York State Police had (allegedly) been in touch with Berman about the Kathleen Durst cold case. The same year Durst went undercover in Galveston, living as a mute woman called Dorothy Ciner. e4fe59cb-f51a-4ee3-abf6-a2de25e3b712 In 2001, dismembered parts of his elderly neighbor’s body were found floating in Galveston Bay. Durst was arrested and charged with murder.

While on bail for the murder charges, Mr. Durst missed a court hearing and became a fugitive. He was caught at a supermarket in Pennsylvania, after trying to shoplift a chicken sandwich, a Band-Aid, and a newspaper, even though he had $500 in his pocket. During a search of his car, police found $37,000 in cash, two guns, marijuana, and Mr. Black’s driver’s license. With time served, Durst walked free after one more year for bond jumping and evidence tampering.
